A few times I jumped straight off the platform only to get crushed by a falling block, insta-killing me. So don't be afraid to take a few seconds.Weapons Wise I used the starting sword, I even did it solo so for now I can't speak about any difficulty or tactics changing with more players.

I would highly recommend attempting to get Lifesteal abilities, because the boss will attempt to spawn a lot of skeletons and lying creatures that will bunch up. One heavy spin attack in the middle of these and I was back at near full health. I do believe one of the starting pedestals on Depth 1 will actually give you Lifesteal at the cost of 500 points per level. This can be quite a good trade if you aren't too bothered for score just because they give you an ability that heals you as you do damage.
