Etrian Mystery Dungeon is both like and unlike every prior Mystery Dungeon game so far. It has taken the variety and controlled chaos from previous Fushigi no Dungeon games and fused it successfully with the intense strategy and difficulty that Etrian Odyssey is known for. One of the key features of the game are the job classes. The boss is on the 15th floor, and the latest you can make a Fort is the 10th. If the DOE is on the 13th floor or so then chances are you can outpace it to the Boss. You can always just track the DOE on your map of the dungeon, and if it gets to the area right before one of your forts, you can Ariadne's Thread out and prepare to battle.
