The Lego Movie 2 Videogame is a Lego-themed action-adventurevideo game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Based on the 2019 film The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, it is a direct sequel to The Lego Movie Videogame, released on February 26, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows; on March 14, 2019 it was released on macOS.[1]

Gameplay[edit]

The game borrows from Lego Worlds, and has new additional characters and refined combat mechanics, as well as those from the first game. Worlds and characters from both films are featured in the game.[2] Players create various structures in order to access new levels.[3]

A 'Galactic Adventures' DLC expansion pack was made available on April 18, 2019 featuring three levels that expand further on certain plot moments from the film, such as Future Emmet's rise to becoming Rex Dangervest and Mayhem helping out the members of the Justice League.

Development and release[edit]

It was officially announced on November 27, 2018 that The Lego Movie Videogame would be getting a sequel, just like The Lego Movie.[citation needed]

The game was released worldwide on February 26, 2019, two weeks after the release of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows.[4]

Is everything awesome in this film tie-in?Much like other instalments in the popular and successful Lego video games franchise, the Lego Movie Videogame is developed by Traveller's Tales and follows the basic plot of its film counterpart. Suitable for adults and children alike, it includes both single and multi-player gameplay elements and offers up a varied cast of characters. In some ways, the very existence of the Lego Movie Videogame is a remarkable story. Ninja heroes reborn. It is, after all, a Lego game based on the Lego Movie; a movie which was only made because of the huge success of the Lego games. The question is, does it compare favourably to those previous games in the series? The BasicsThe Lego Movie Videogame's main protagonist is Emmet, an ordinary construction worker, whose life becomes a lot more adventurous after a meeting with the free-spirited Wyldstyle.

Along the way, they are joined by Lego versions of several more instantly recognisable characters, including Batman, Gandalf and Abraham Lincoln.Basic gameplay will be familiar to anyone who has any experience with previous entries in the franchise; players complete fairly routine puzzles and battle various enemies in order to progress through the levels, controlling numerous characters along the way. The plot is advanced through excellent voice-acted cut scenes, although those voices are not provided by the actors in the movie, with the exception of Todd Hansen.Innovation or Continuation?Generally, the Lego video game series has felt a little stale for a while now and the Lego Movie Videogame introduces a few new ideas to combat this. For example, in a welcome addition, there are now two main character types: regular and master builders. Regular builders, such as Emmet, require blueprints before they are able to construct buildings, while masters, like Batman, are able to build without the need to collect instructions first.Additionally, all of the scenery is made from Lego bricks, moving away from the more realistic backdrops seen in entries like Lego Batman and Lego Star Wars. This serves to make the game more visually unique and works well, even if it is primarily a cosmetic change. The game is not completely without its flaws; characters will sometimes get stuck in the environment and there are occasional camera problems. It is also worth noting that the main story is much shorter than in recent Lego games.

Moreover, in spite of the additions, it ultimately feels like more of the same. While that will appeal to hardcore fans, or complete newcomers to the series, others may struggle with the limited amount of real innovation provided.Pros. Excellent level designs. Will appeal to all age groups. A good companion to its source materialCons. Repetitive for anyone who has played other Lego games.

Characters occasionally get stuck on scenery. The game is shorter than recent Lego instalments.
